A Pair of Individuals Detained Over Phone Hidden in House of Commons to Reportedly Broadcast Sex Noises During Prime Minister's Questions

Police have arrested a duo of individuals related to a cellular device found concealed within the parliamentary chamber, which was reportedly intended to emit sex noises throughout the prime minister’s questions.

Finding and Probe

This phone was uncovered near the frontbench in the course of a standard security check of the chamber. It is believed it was planned to interrupt the regular debate between Keir Starmer and Kemi Badenoch in September.

A police spokesperson stated, “At 10.25 on Wednesday 3 September, a mobile phone was found during a standard inspection of the House of Commons chamber.”

Detentions and Allegations

Enquiries led officers to believe that the device was purposely placed in a spot with the intention of creating interference to business in the house.

  • A man in his thirties was detained on Friday 5 September on suspected grounds of trying to deliberately cause a public nuisance.
  • A second person in his 60s was arrested on the following Tuesday on suspicion of the same offence.
  • The two have been bailed to appear at a later date.

Precautions and Impact

Increased security measures were implemented in the House of Commons after the phone was found. Audio tours and escorted visits were cancelled, and there was limited entry to the Commons chamber.

The upper house followed suit to limit entry to the Lords Chamber “for safety reasons.”

The spokesperson added, “Investigations continue, and we continue to keep the parliamentary officials up to date with our probe.”

Gravity of the Event

This incident is being regarded as grave as it represents a major breach of legislative safety. The phone was found while hundreds security staff based in the parliamentary area were on strike over pay and conditions.

Consequently, the public were prohibited from the parliamentary estate. The union explained that the strike proceeded due to cutbacks in holiday time, unchanged salaries, and an ethnicity pay gap.
