The Princess of Wales is hosting her annual Christmas carol concert at the historic Abbey, with attendees featuring members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The large audience will enjoy a blend of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from actors such as Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

Centred Around Kindness and Compassion

The theme of the event, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday, is kindness and showing love to others.

In the audience are a couple named the Cordiners, whose daughter died of a brain tumour, and who founded an organisation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a child with a terminal illness.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any expectation or recognition, make an profound impact to the circumstances of individuals," the Princess expressed in a message before the carol service.

A Steady Comeback

The princess has been making her own gradual return to the public eye following her health challenges and treatment, recently giving her first public speech for two years, in which she discussed recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Musical Talent and Access

Those coming to the Abbey will be entertained by talented youth performers backed by the Future Talent organisation, established in part by the former royal to broaden opportunities for music lessons.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been helped by the charity, with awards contributing to instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "awesome" to be performing at tonight's service.

"Music can be very expensive," the musician remarked. She is now studying at the prestigious music academy, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to develop their musical skills.

A Family Affair

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who plays the euphonium, will also be at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Attending the service will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will include Saphia Turner, aged nine, winner of a youth community award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to raise money for food banks.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been decorated with custom-created holiday decorations, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

Taking to the stage will be recording artist Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "a dream come true."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be aired by a major network on Christmas Eve.
