Widely circulated footage appeared to show Jones flashing his middle finger at Jets fans, but Jones insists he was actually giving a thumbs-up to Dallas supporters in attendance as his team clinched a 37-22 victory.
“It was regrettable. It was kind of an exchange with Cowboys supporters out in front of us,” Jones explained during a Tuesday interview. “Present was a large group of Cowboys fans—not Jets fans, our fans. The entire stadium was filled with enthusiasm for the Dallas team.”
He further clarified that the signal was entirely accidental, occurring amid the excitement following the team’s last score. “I simply put up the wrong digit,” he noted. “The action was accidentally done. This is sincere. If you want to call it unplanned, you can. However, it got corrected pretty quick.”
